Tuesday Feb 20

Another sunny and warm day! We started out with a big breakfast at LuLu's then walked across the street to the Honolulu Zoo where we spent the bulk of the day. What a great zoo! Lots of emphasis on ecology and conservation. Hawaii is a unique example of what can happen to an environment that is invaded by people, plants and animals from other places. Everything is interconnected, for better or worse.

We learned that anthropologists figure that Hawaii was the last chunk of land on the planet to be inhabited by humans. Easy to understand when you consider its just a speck of rock in the middle of a huge ocean, thousands of miles from anything!

We were just in time for glorious sunset (which, they say, happens every day)on our way to dinner at the famous "Cheeseburger in Paradise", just a few blocks down the street.

This "Waikiki" strip is about 2 miles long. Its amazing how many hotels and upscale shops are lined up here, all very tastefully done, Of course, you'll find an ABC store at least once every block - they're everywhere!

Home tomorrow. We have to leave our hotel at some ungodly hours....arrive home to freezing cold after 9:00PM, via LAX. Too bad a trip has to end this way....hope its a better experience than getting here!

Queen Kapiolani under renovation - needs it badly!

Here's to a great trip!
